SHELTER CULTIVATION PROJECT

-
The Shelter Cultivation Project at the Karma Bird House is a year-long collaborative art project culminating in a three-month gallery exhibition and pop up shop featuring artwork and bespoke handmade goods from over 50 of the most exciting local and international artists, designers, makers and visionaries working today.

Early on in the Covid-19 pandemic we became acutely aware of the impact both isolation and the economic shutdown would have on our artist community. The Shelter Cultivation Project was conceived of as a way to help support Vermont artists and strengthen our broader creative community.

We began by commissioning local artists, designers and makers to collaborate on unique one-off projects. Once the fire was lit, we kept pushing the concept further. We expanded our scope, broadened our reach, and found news ways to connect with artists and our community.

Since those early days, Shelter has expanded into an ambitious gallery exhibition and pop up shop celebrating the creative energy of some of the world’s most exciting independent artists, publishers, designers, and makers. In the spirit of building community we will be hosting a series of public workshops with artists and makers throughout our three-month exhibition.

Our mission is to strengthen our local and global creative community by celebrating and sharing our unified practice.

The gallery show and pop up shop will be open to the public from August 5th thru November 1st at the Karma Birdhouse Gallery, 47 Maple St. Burlington, Vermont.

The opening reception will be held on August 5th from 6 - 8 with the party kicking off at 8.

Keep an eye out as we will be announcing public collaboration projects in the coming weeks.
