I first met Alayna while traveling through Helena, Montana, a few years ago. I was immediately drawn to her work. It was a completely new way of working to me. She was entirely self-contained, weaving her own textiles, dyeing her fabrics, and making her own ceramic buttons. Her aesthetic was completely her own, and I was fascinated by the thought and care that went into every part of the process. Her work had an impact on me that I couldn't have fully appreciated at the time, and I was thrilled to invite her to be part of The Cut & Sew Show.
I work in collaboration with nature. This piece is dyed with botanicals from my garden and waxed with beeswax from a neighbor’s hive. It features a few handmade porcelain buttons and an Emily Dickinson quote on the elbows. - Alayna Rasile-Digrindakis
The Cut & Sew Show brings together some of the most exciting independent artists and designers working today, each given the same unfinished chore coat to reimagine through their own creative practice.
Presented by Shelter Cultivation Project in partnership with April Cornell, the exhibition explores the intersection of art, fashion, design, textiles, and making. Each artist brings their own materials, techniques, and creative language to the garment, resulting in a collection of one-of-a-kind works.
