We were excited to have Vermont artist Bethany Andrews-Nichols be part of The Cut & Sew Show, and even more excited to see what she would do with the chore coat. She absolutely delivered.
“Inspired by my love of Frog & Toad’s ‘The Button’ (IYKYK & you should look in the pocket), this piece is a celebration of the ordinary.
I emphasized my bold, simple, slightly rough around the edges approach to design by choosing to focus on something as humble as a button. Each button was meticulously constructed by hand & stitched onto this low-color, hand block-printed backdrop.” - Bethany Andrews-Nichols (BEENANZA)
The Cut & Sew Show brings together some of the most exciting independent artists and designers working today, each given the same unfinished chore coat to reimagine through their own creative practice.
Presented by Shelter Cultivation Project in partnership with April Cornell, the exhibition explores the intersection of art, fashion, design, textiles, and making. Each artist brings their own materials, techniques, and creative language to the garment, resulting in a collection of one-of-a-kind works.
