I was excited to see what Marianne Kettenbeil would bring to The Cut & Sew Show. She transformed the chore coat with natural dyes, bringing a beautiful sense of texture and color to the garment. I love the mix of materials and details, from the vintage camouflage pockets to the dried flower and the hand-crocheted piece on the back. It’s a thoughtful combination of the natural world, found materials, and hands-on making that makes this coat entirely her own.
The Cut & Sew Show brings together some of the most exciting independent artists and designers working today, each given the same unfinished chore coat to reimagine through their own creative practice.
Presented by Shelter Cultivation Project in partnership with April Cornell, the exhibition explores the intersection of art, fashion, design, textiles, and making. Each artist brings their own materials, techniques, and creative language to the garment, resulting in a collection of one-of-a-kind works.
