Christopher Leiter of Sand Outdoors is an incredible designer and a good friend who I’ve had the pleasure of collaborating with on a variety of projects over the years. We were excited to bring him into The Cut & Sew Show and see where he would take the coat.
“In the studio, I’m always looking for the right tool, and it’s never in the spot I left it. I’ve turned this chore coat into a studio work coat, a place to keep those tools close at hand. The aesthetic is exaggerated to underline the materials and processes I love most: brand identity, dyeing, stitching, and the hybridization of materials and cultural styles.”

The Cut & Sew Show brings together some of the most exciting independent artists and designers working today, each given the same unfinished chore coat to reimagine through their own creative practice.
Presented by Shelter Cultivation Project in partnership with April Cornell, the exhibition explores the intersection of art, fashion, design, textiles, and making. Each artist brings their own materials, techniques, and creative language to the garment, resulting in a collection of one-of-a-kind works.
