Sara is a Persian-American fashion designer and a dear friend. I've been fortunate to collaborate with her on countless occasions over the years, so having her take part in The Cut & Sew Show was especially meaningful. The back of her coat carries the phrase, "We came from the dust and we will return to the dust." It's a simple but powerful statement about our place in the world, where we come from, and where we're all headed. I love that Sara chose to make that the centerpiece of her piece.
The Cut & Sew Show brings together some of the most exciting independent artists and designers working today, each given the same unfinished chore coat to reimagine through their own creative practice.
Presented by Shelter Cultivation Project in partnership with April Cornell, the exhibition explores the intersection of art, fashion, design, textiles, and making. Each artist brings their own materials, techniques, and creative language to the garment, resulting in a collection of one-of-a-kind works.
